A FEW WORDS TAKEN FROM OUR POWERPOINT PRESENTATION TO NEW PARENTS GUARDIANS AND FRIENDS 2006

On behalf of the existing parents of children at Redhill I would like to extend a very warm welcome to you all.
My name is Jonathan Lees like yourself I am a parent of a Redhill pupil, and I try to do a bit to help our Home and School Association.
All of you are already members of our Home and School Association, what you need to do now is get involved.

Please do not let the name put you off, we are not aiming to run the school from your home. Instead we are what used to be called a Parents and Teacher Association or PTA, however as we get active support from grandparents and other volunteers associated with the school we feel HSA describes us better.
There are a number of events throughout the year involving parents where we make the refreshments, we need volunteers for a couple of hours to enable this to happen.

Every 12 months we lose a years worth of parents so I would like to ask you all to look out for the events posted in the school newsletter and consider getting involved. Often one more person coming along to help will make a real difference. Do make a note of the meeting dates of HSA and come along. The meetings are friendly and relevant.

My wife has said (and I quote); "I find it helpful to be involved at school to get to know some of the teachers, it helps put a face to a name at Parents Evening and also know who our children are talking about when discussing their day". You do get an unprecedented chance to get to know members of the Senior Management Team here, often including the Headteacher.
I can tell you that they are really nice people and well worth spending a little time with.
We arrange social events, and do fundraising, this is very good for the ethos of the school. We get to decide what the money is spent on too. Come to our meetings and give us your ideas. Come along to events and bring your friends and families, all are welcome, look out for the adverts in the school newsletters.
At primary school you got to talk to other parents by the school gate. That does not happen here. Your son or daughter will probably not want to admit that they have parents and insist even if you bring them that they are dropped off aroung the corner, it is not safe if they come in a car, to drop them off at the gate anyway. So the best way to meet other parents and chat is at the Redhill Home and School Association meetings and events.

PLEASE FIND BELOW A REDHILL SCHOOL PRESS RELEASE FROM 24th AUGUST 2007

Another Outstanding Year for Redhill Pupils!

Record Year for Redhill!
Pupils arrived at Redhill School and Language College in Stourbridge this morning to receive and celebrate their own, and the school’s record performance in GCSE. With 73% achieving the benchmark 5 passes at grade C or better the results have set new standards for the school.( Almost 60% achieved the new benchmark of 5 passes including maths and English ). These excellent results reflect a continual improvement in this already successful schools performance and supports OFSTEDs view that the school has many outstanding features.
Whilst there were many individual stories of success it was the overall performance that pleased Headteacher Brian Heavisides the most.
“ I am delighted that almost every pupil has achieved their just reward for the efforts they have made whilst here at Redhill. We are particularly pleased that 100% of the pupils achieved at least one pass, and 98 % achieved five passes of A* to G. Individually there are some wonderful success stories to go with the fantastic whole school results and we are so pleased that so many will now move on to further education with the confidence that these results will generate.”
Amongst the many success stories were Robin Smith who achieved one of the top five marks in the country for Applied Science and Rebecca Tipper who collected 9A*s, three As and an A at AS Level Critical thinking. Adam Ware, Cecily Johnson and Sarah Grove each achieved 11A grades or better. A hundred and twenty three pupils achieved at least 8 grade C passes or better representing 54% of the intake, a remarkable in depth performance.
