Waverley Cemetery Here is a photo of Waverley Cemetery looking out to sea. James Lees and family grave is behind the photographer.
Pictures of 3 gravesites, all at Waverley Cemetery a seaside suburb of Sydney. The cemetery is on the top of a cliff overlooking the ocean. These graves are in august company. Not far away is Henry Lawson, a famous and well loved Australian author of short stories. Henry Kendall the poet - less well known but famous for "Bellbirds". Lawrence Hargraves a pioneer in aviation. His experiments and ideas influenced the Wright Bros, so I am told.
Grave picture 1 William is the son of James. He married again after his first wife died. First wife was Margaret Clark Simpson and second wife Sarah Ann Howland..

Grave Picture 3 jleesgrave is unfortunately difficult to read. The sea air has fretted the sandstone and some of the engraving is lost. Isabella Jones was also twice married. Her first Husband, Cornelius Gilchrist, is the father of Ann Lees, so Ann was Ann Gilchrest. But I have found one document where she has called herself Ann Jones. Here is a transcript to help with the lack of clarity. Even up close and touching the stone it is difficult to work out: Sacred to the memory of ISABELLA JONES who departed this life17 th October 1882 aged 71 years Also ANN LEES daughter of the above The dearly loved wife of JAMES LEES died ??? 1904 ages 73 years. Also JAMES LEES died 16th January 1913 aged 83 years Also THOMAS LEES son of the above died 23rd July 1928 aged 69 years.
